Mission
The mission for College PreView (CP), First Opportunity (FO), and DirectAIM (DA) is to provide timely information focusing on stepping-stones in the development of leadership, life-management skills, career development resources, and career opportunities for African-American and Latino high school and college students. The guides introduce innovative methods and strategies to help readers hone their skills and magnify their successes. They provide detailed how-to information in an entertaining and conversational manner.
Readership Audience
CP, FO & DA are independently owned by CPG Publications, and hold exclusive naming and promotional rights for special programs sponsored by the publishers on behalf of its readership.
Readers are primarily African-American & Latino high school and college students who are not content with the status quo. They are people who want to know more about how to succeed and how to have a better life. They are constantly seeking cutting-edge ideas to improve their leadership and marketable skills. Readers are innovative thinkers who will eventually be the new faces of leadership.
What We're Looking For
They are intelligent students who desire to learn about how to navigate through college, career planning, financial management, and relationship building. We're looking for in-depth reporting, with information culled from many sources to give readers a broad perspective on a topic. Can you offer a fresh angle on a familiar subject? Can you convey atmosphere and personality when interviewing professionals and experts? Can you elicit interesting quotes from industry experts and find sources who don't say the same old thing in the same old way? Can you write about topics with authority and passion? Then you're the kind of writer we're looking for.
Features Articles
Features are 1,800 words, plus sidebars, charts, boxes, and, in some cases, photos. Types of features we are seeking include:
- In-depth articles examining how a current issue, such as the tight labor markets or workforce diversity may affect African-American and Latino career choices for those entering the workforce.
- Psychological topics, such as "How to balance school and a job" or "What is the difference between being an appointed leader and being a self-appointed leader?"
- How-to articles, such as ways to manage relationships and issues, how to bounce back from a failure, how to make cultural diversity work, or how to invest before leaving college.
